Q: What would you recommend in terms of action items for a smaller firm who is cost-constrained to start putting this into practice?

A: You can start small.  Everybody looks at the big ticket items in terms of sustainability.  Start small even in your own office.  If you have to upgrade or change your light fixtures to more efficient ones.  As you are getting clients, maybe there are sustainable strategies you can put in place that are sustainable for your project.  

Q: What are some of the resources you would recommend to a professional trying to get more up to speed with current sustainability standards and practices?

A: There are so many resources out there.  There are free webinars everywhere to get educated right now on the current sustainability standards and practices. 

Q: What are you finding as best practices for specifying for sustainability standards while simultaneously meeting competitive bid requirements?  Sometimes that can be conflicting.

A: That can be difficult at times.  Ten years ago it was a lot harder.  The premiums on sustainable products have gone down.   If you are bidding for a product, everyone else is bidding for it too.  It's important to go with the most cost-effective sustainable option.
