The moment has arrived. After weeks of anticipation, it's time to announce the official winners of the 2025 BIMsmith Winter Wonderland Holiday Revit Family Competition.
This year's entries demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical skill. Our distinguished Revit judging panel evaluated each entry based on three core criteria: Creativity (bringing imagination to life), Execution (considering quality, usability, and BIM standards), and Functionality (adding meaningful usefulness beyond geometry). After careful deliberation, they reached their final decisions.
On behalf of everyone at BIMsmith, thank you to all participants who made this year's competition such a success. Here's to another great year ahead!
Introducing the Winners of the 2025 BIMsmith Winter Wonderland Holiday Revit Family Competition
1st Place - Elf on a Shelf
Creator: Chas Barrott
Company: Drägerwerk

This playful entry reimagines the classic Elf on a Shelf as an interactive Revit experience controlled through a custom C# built .dll file, run via Revit's Add-In Manager. The family features clean pivot points and intuitive controls that make the elf easy to pose and manipulate. What set this entry apart was how effectively it used parametrics to deliver maximum impact with minimal complexity. The judges loved how the creator showcased that flexibility through genuinely funny, story-driven scenes, proving how a simple, well-built family can unlock endless variation.
2nd Place - Cuckoo Clock
Creator: Brendan Burke
Company: The Sheward Partnership

Inspired by traditional cuckoo clocks, this Revit family explores what's possible when production modeling meets creative expression. Each component of the mechanism was carefully modeled, with animation driven through Dynamo to illustrate the clock's internal movement. Richly detailed geometry and tightly linked parametric relationships make the mechanism feel alive, particularly when the clock face opens to reveal its inner workings. Despite its complexity, the clock still works as a usable holiday piece, balancing visual spectacle with disciplined execution.
3rd Place - Santa-Bot
Creator: Dariel Rey García
See what Dariel had to say about his submission. Download the Revit file here.

Drawing inspiration from the TV series Challenge of the Gobots, this Revit family reimagines Santa as a transforming robotic character. The model relies on nested families to manage complex relationships between parts, with carefully aligned parameters driving its behavior. SantaBot earned third place for delivering a memorable transformation with simple inputs producing a complete animated shift, including the signature rotation seen in classic transforming toys. The judges praised it as strong parametric thinking paired with a nostalgic, playful concept.
Honorable Mention - Magic Train
Creator: Marcos Vinicius De Macedo Domingues
See what Marcos had to say about his submission. Download the Revit file here.

This festive Revit family centers on a buildable train rail system that reveals holiday treats along the way. Sweet items such as cookies, milk, gingerbread, and gift boxes appear as the track length changes, turning a familiar seasonal motif into something interactive and engaging. The judges noted the attention to detail, from accurate proportions to rail spikes and joinery that reward closer inspection. It stood out as a festive object with enough charm and versatility to feel relevant beyond the holiday season.
Honorable Mention - Adjustable Christmas Clock
Creator: Simon Yew
Company: Perkins Eastman Architects
See what Simon had to say about his submission. Download the Revit file here.

This Grinch-inspired and winter clock family features adjustable hour and minute hands, with options to switch between universal numerals and Roman numerals. The design balances character and clarity, allowing the clock to function both as a themed holiday piece and a conventional timekeeping object. What impressed the judges most was the discipline behind the parametrics. The family solves time accurately with a tight, efficient set of parameters and allows users to toggle between a festive Grinch mode and an everyday clock.
