As summer starts to come to an end and we begin to gear up for fall, it's time to start thinking about transitional decor that will keep you feeling the warmth of summer even as the days get colder. Whether you are entertaining or just need a space to unwind, adding a few fresh touches can go a long way.
Not sure what updates to make? Here are some of the latest residential trends to help your design make the transition into fall.
Bold Patterns
When designing living spaces this season, bold patterns can help change the feeling of a room. Color contrasts have been prominent in this year’s summer interior design trends; consider adding a mix of close-up print art or a statement two-tone geometric rug.
Even in understated spaces, the right pattern can bring life to a room while still keeping it simplistic. Don’t be afraid to pair different patterns together.

Boho Chic
Boho-chic has gained traction when it comes to seasonal transitions. The colors and decorative pieces of this style make for a timeless and a seamless way to transition from one season to the next. This trend gives off a laid-back vibe that can help inhabitants stay relaxed.
Include printed patterns, macrame tassels, and dried greenery combined with vintage accessories and brass furniture to perfect the retro look. Stick to darker tones on the walls and various woodwork pieces to modernize this style.

Relaxed Shapes
Organic shapes and lines with flow work to create a cozy environment. Curves and rounded edges can help connect us to nature and remind us of the importance of self-care and relaxation.
You can find this trend in bedrooms, living rooms, and even kitchens with curved islands and scalloped edges to make guests feel comfortable and welcomed in every part of a home.

Sustainability and Upcycling
Using natural fibers and products made from recycled materials, vintage furniture, and made-to-order goods will help transform your home and your way of life. If possible, try to purchase from local and fair-trade sources, use low-impact materials, install energy-wise lighting, and think differently about what products to put inside your project.
While you work through different projects remember to opt for donating, reselling, or recycling old items you don’t plan to use anymore.

Upcycled furniture and decorative pieces are becoming increasingly popular as the heart of living mindfully and with low waste. Refinished furniture provides a project with a one-of-a-kind piece that can't be found anywhere else.
Statement Lighting
As many designers and design lovers know, lighting should be more than just functional. Many professionals agree that statement pieces can transform spaces of all kinds without making any structural changes. Light fixtures allow the opportunity to showcase personal style and add a talking point for guests.

In a recent trend report, Etsy states that many shoppers are already considering statement lighting for their homes. Etsy has seen a 344% increase in searches for “70s lighting” (i.e. retro colors and funky shapes) and a 27% increase for “sculptural or decorative lighting."
Indoor-Outdoor Spaces
Blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces has been prominent since the beginning of the pandemic. This trend is a fun challenge of trying to create a functional space while styling it in a way that blends the two spaces perfectly.
Create cohesive indoor-outdoor areas by opening up walls, installing floor-to-ceiling windows, and keeping them natural. Focus on letting natural light, open-air, and greenery be the priority when designing this space.

Warm Metallics
Warm metallics like rose gold, copper, bronze, gold, and brass made their debut this summer and more designers are starting to appreciate the elegance they bring. Mix up your color scheme by pairing stainless steel appliances with gold dishes, silverware, and hardware.
Sticking to an all-white or monochrome style? Brighten up the room with bronze accents like lampshades, candleholders, decorative bowls, and more.
