Session Questions and Responses
Q: What are some things you can do in the bathroom to make the space not feel/look institutional or more suited for a commercial?
A: We covered some of those in the presentation, with having some of those with having some of those decorative features in the bathroom that double as grab assist bars, such as toilet paper holders, towel bars. There are quite a few options to make those spaces look comfortable. It is important to create those beautifully aesthetic spaces that duel as safety and functionality.
Q: Does your company offer special deals to architects for their own use? I’m in the process of building a new Aging in Place home now!
A: We work through our sales agents, who are always willing to work with designers or architects. I would highly recommend to work with your trade rep. We have commercial and residential reps. If you have any concerns or issues, I am always happy to help.
Q: Are there guidelines for ADA regarding children who need to use the same fixtures in the bathroom but are not yet an adult size?
A: As far as ADA standards, I am not sure on that. Using common sense and products that are available. Shower heads on a slide bar, are much more comfortable and accomadating to children. 2 in 1 shower heads, you can undock, and make the shower head more flexible, which makes it easier to use for children and the elderly.
Q: By definition, “ADA Complaint” means meeting the ADA standards. Are you referring to manufactured products that have been pre-approved to meet “ADA” (listed on data & packaging) vs. ones that do so without such official stamp?
A: We carry both. If they are marked as ADA, they have been tested and meet all standards and requirements for the ADA. However, there are products that aren't marked with ADA but offer similar assistance.
Q: What is the difference between an assist bar and grab bar?
A: There are differences. ADA requires certain diameter for the bar. The grab bar must meet the 300 pound force. The assist bar, can meet the force, but the diameter is slightly smaller. There are slight differences, but if you are looking for general purposes, they both meet the ADA standard.
