New Virtual CEU Session: Lighting - Precision Projection

DESCRIPTION

As sustainability regulations increase in Europe and North America, new innovations in lighting, such as GOBO Projections, are being developed to meet the growing need for illumination that protects dark skies and lowers energy consumption. In this CE course, we will define what a GOBO is and what components are required to create endless possibilities for lighting with gobos. We will also outline the design and engineering process of using gobo projection for precisely controlled lighting effects. Finally, we'll review project examples that show the capabilities of custom gobo mapping. Critical considerations such as fixture sizing and location, gobo artwork development, and on-site commissioning will be reviewed. At the end of the course, participants should have a good understanding of the process of custom mapping light projections and the capabilities that this technology offers.
 

PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Understand what a GOBO is, how it is used in lighting, what the critical attributes of a GOBO are, and how to develop custom artwork to produce the intended lighting effects.

2. Understand what a GOBO Projector is, how it is used in lighting, and what its basic components and photometry are.3. Discover post-pandemic perceptions of commercial restrooms from a recent global survey.

3. Understand the multi-step design and engineering process that is required to map custom lighting projections onto architectural objects and surfaces. This will be expressed through an in-depth case-study of a custom precision projection project of a large-scale cathedral.

4. Inspire participants to dream up new design possibilities for nighttime experiences through exploration of project examples using GOBOs for lighting effects.
