This course will discuss how to design interior spaces that maximize occupant comfort. It will focus on best practices and standards that govern acoustic requirements, discuss the principles of sound management, review tools for both lighting and acoustic design, and end with two case studies.

1. Discuss the motivations behind an increased focus on sound abatement strategies in architectural spaces.

2. Understand the fundamental principles of sound management and how they are applied.

3. Understand the science of sound absorption.

4. Identify the acoustic requirements for different applications and the applicable standards used when designing for acoustic performance.

5. Explore strategies to optimize spaces for sound and light with integrated lighting and sound management systems.
