Swatchbox and Petite Friture, the Paris-based designer and manufacturer of bold furniture, lighting, and accessories, are collaborating to furnish the 2023 Clerkenwell Design Week Sample Gallery.

The Sample Gallery is a temporary exhibition of building material samples from top brands around the world, powered by leading UK Sample Library & material research platform Swatchbox.

The indoor-outdoor exhibition will be a hot destination for designers and architects from around the UK and Europe to discover, explore, and experience new materials up-close and in person. With a diversity of interior and exterior materials, from flooring, to wall coverings, paint, carpet, tile, decking, and brick, the CDW Sample Gallery provides a single location for designers and architects to be inspired with materials from around the festival.

Designers from Swatchbox and Petite Friture are collaborating to furnish the installation, a key focal point of the 2023 Clerkenwell Design Week, with tables and chairs from the Fromme collection, all in matching electric coral colour. As they explore the Sample Gallery, visitors will be able to sit in the shade and enjoy lunch or beverages at the collection of tables and chairs from Petite Friture.

Created by Canadian designer and cycling aficionado, Tom Chung, the Fromme collection is characterized by its bike-seat inspired sleek, streamlined curves. 

An experienced cyclist, he used to climb Fromme Mountain outside of Vancouver and was fascinated by the technical performance of his bike. He sought to rediscover the efficiency that the latter brought him to reinvent the most common object and yet the greatest challenge for a designer: a design chair.

Pieces in the Fromme range are made in a way that make them truly exceptional. Tom Chung designed the very moulds used to die cast the parts used on every piece in the Fromme range. The same can be said for the extruded tubes, which render the square aluminium table both lightweight and robust.
